Sweetheart dress pattern
1940s PDF sewing pattern with sweetheart neckline and empire bodice and paneled skirt.
The War Production Board was established by President Roosevelt on January 16th, 1942. It’s primary purpose was to regulate the use of materials and manufacturing facilities to forward the war effort.
On April 8, 1942 the WPB issued Limitation order #L-85 putting the famous WWII clothing restrictions into place. All designers had to work within these guidelines or they were severly fined.
- Sweeps (hem circumference) could not exceed 72 inches
- Hems could not be deeper than 2 inches
- Only one pocket per blouse was allowed.
- No patch pockets on coats or jackets
- No cuffs or pleats on pants
- No vests for suits
- No bias cut sleeves
